I am passionate about improving the teaching of mathematics.

Why mathematics?

For me it’s a subject that teachers – through no fault of their own – often find difficult to teach well or with enthusiasm. Frequently, this impacts adversely on pupils’ success and their longer-term attitudes about mathematics. I believe it doesn’t have to be like this.

By making effective use of best-practice evidence and research, teachers can bring about sustainable improvements in their own practice, which in turn leads to greater pupil achievement as they realise they can succeed in mathematics.

What is my role?

I have 20 years’ experience of developing and refining my practice in teaching mathematics, and combine this with a unique, honest and practical approach to working with others. As an Advanced Skills Teacher in Bristol, I supported many teachers and school leaders – often in challenging contexts – across the city to improve maths teaching.

More recently, since qualifying as a Primary Mastery Specialist with the NCETM (National Centre for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics), I have extended this role, collaborating with over 50 schools, helping teachers and senior leaders to coordinate success in their own settings.

What might this look like in your setting?

It’s really important that any work we do together is designed to meet your specific needs. Programmes of support can vary in their nature, time and execution. Examples of potential areas of work can be found within the services section of the site. However, I am happy to discuss a more bespoke approach and would encourage you to make contact to talk through your unique circumstances.
