headteacher

Jason is a passionate and inspirational coach and mentor. His ability to model maths teaching at the highest level is instrumental in increasing the engagement and enjoyment of all pupils, which in turn brings about significant improvements in the standards that are attained.

His deep knowledge of the maths curriculum is coupled with exceptional clarity of communication when sharing the best practice in maths pedagogy. His knowledge has been gained through both in-depth research and as a result of his own creativity and curiosity in the classroom.

Jason is adept at providing school leaders with significant guidance in maths teaching and learning, so that improvements are school-wide and sustained. He is also able to empower leaders to significantly develop their staff, rapidly identifying areas for school development and providing the tools to bring about positive change.

Jason was very supportive and offered excellent guidance and advice. He didn’t pull any punches. He was very honest about what he saw. He raised issues he felt needed dealing with and offered recognition for the things that we were doing well. He was challenging but that has helped us to strive to succeed in order to give the best maths provision we can for our pupils.

Jason's passion for maths is infectious. Our Work Group meetings were always very relevant, focused and useful. He provided clear practical examples, useful resources, guidance and advice, that could be shared back at school to support staff. .

Having worked with Jason for ten years I can advocate for him as a specialist in the teaching and learning of mathematics. He has a well-developed philosophy based on up-to-date research and continued refinement of his teaching practice.

In our setting, he consistently delivered high quality CPD for staff – some generic, to promote consistency and continuity within the school, and some bespoke training for individuals who required specific intervention. The staff enjoyed the challenges of designing lessons that really met the needs of their classes. As a result, pupils became confident, excited and eager to engage in maths. This was all driven and sustained by Jason’s enthusiasm, determination and clear vision.

Jason's clear and pragmatic approach endears him to staff and as a result he gets results! School leaders are given the confidence and tools to support their colleagues in delivering exciting yet sustainable curriculums.  I would highly recommend his services to anyone.

I have been able to use Jason's leadership and coaching strategies in my setting, which has helped to up-skill staff. The Lesson Design session enabled me to further improve my small-step planning and then lead CPD on this. Jason has guided us every step of the way. Many staff have commented on how they have been able to see a change in our confidence when talking about and teaching maths, and we feel this has been down to fantastic mentoring.

Jason's great skill is his ability to translate theory into practice in a way that is understandable, achievable and sustainable for teachers. As a leader, his credibility is underpinned by the quality of his teaching; he is able to model how excellent classroom practice can be developed through the application of key principles. The deep understanding he has of teaching helps him cut through what can feel like a maze of "good practice" guidance and bring a sense of clarity to what really matters. This clarity enables him to support colleagues to identifying priorities and map out plans to address these, both on an individual and whole school level. His focus on the things that really matter means that he helps to bring about improvements that can be seen in classrooms and across the school both immediately and for years to come.

It has been good to talk to Jason and to pinpoint our weaknesses and strengths as a whole school. This enabled us to put together a solid action plan. I also now have a key vision for maths for the next two years.

The culture towards teaching maths has changed for the better. There is now a more consistent approach to the teaching of maths throughout the school.
